Context
- Sample type: Design system page
- Product: Unified enterprise AI/ML platform and legacy products
- Users: Content designers and technical writers
- Constraints: None—I aimed for the ideal to set a standard
Approach
- I wrote and revised the page’s content, incorporating feedback from the teammate who wrote the parent page on voice
Rationale
- For years we had an outdated style guide that no one used much
- This page is one of many we added to the design system as part of a larger effort to train the team in current user-centered writing practices
Outcome
- A thorough explanation, with dos and don’ts, of how to meet users where they are by using the right tone

*As of May 2026, I see issues from a platform migration. “Adapting tone by situation” should be a child page of “Voice and tone.” But the content otherwise looks unchanged from when I wrote it.
