Context
- Sample type: Content design
- Product: Unified enterprise AI/ML platform
- Users: Data scientists, data engineers, and business analysts
- Their need: Connect to a database from various applications on the platform without having to re-enter database credentials every time
- Constraints: A last-minute requirement and no UX designer was available initially
Approach
- From the product manager’s requirements, I created an initial mockup in Word (the tool didn’t matter—we just needed something fast)
- When a UX designer became available, they rendered the design in Figma, with adjustments, and I refined the content
- For inclusion in this portfolio, I critiqued it further
Rationale
- Too often, screen design is “done” before content design begins, and important discoveries happen too late
- We saw an opportunity to lead with content design and show our team the efficiency
Outcome
- Figma designs ready for development
- A user experience that did not need content added to the in-product help
- Time saved on rework due to the content-first approach
- More content improvements I identified in hindsight (small content changes are quick and low-cost to add later, unlike redesigning the whole user flow)
